Mizzou Ready for Return to NCAA Tournament

Frericks' return was a large reason the Tigers said they were the best team Pingeton has had at MU, one that could make a deep NCAA Tournament run, but instead Missouri bowed out in the opening round.

Florida State shot under 27 percent in the first half and 45 percent for the game, while PJ Savoy and Trent Forrest led the Seminoles with 14 points each in the 82-74 defeat.

The 2018 NCAA Tournament's second round is set - well, nearly (that Missouri-Florida State game isn't quite over yet).

Zac Choate has the story of Mizzou's game plan of succeeding without Barnett available. She's already up to 1,528 points, good for ninth in Missouri's all-time scoring list. Redshirt freshman forward Mfiondu Kabengele was terrific on both ends and finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Dow hit back to back threes late in the first half to help give the Eagles some early separation, part of a 9-2 run that saw the Eagles lead by double digits before carrying a 41-32 lead into the half. Don't get me wrong, I really like the talent and potential Porter Jr. has (we even share the same name!) However, I strongly suggest that he remains in college one more year to get in shape, relearn the speed and flow of the game, and to learn to trust his body again.

But Florida Gulf Coast was going to figure out the Tigers' plan eventually, and with about a minute left in the first half, the Eagles stole the ball from Cunningham just as she caught it inside the paint. The Tigers scored just 4 points over a 6:46 stretch, and the Seminoles jumped out to a 10-point lead.

The Tigers pulled within 52-44 on a pair of free throws by Porter as Missouri opened the second half by outscoring Florida State 24-8. The "Noles" defense suffocated Missouri throughout much of the evening. With their lead seemingly at its most vulnerable, FSU stunned Missouri by reeling off 15 straight points that snuffed out the Tigers' comeback bid and sealed a 67-54 win in front of 17,549 fans.

Second half, I thought they did a tremendous job coming out, denying spots on the floor.

Late in the second after Dow hit a 3-pointer on the other end then pounded with Cunningham inside and other FGCU defenders swarmed, Cunningham still was able to find a way to nearly underhand the ball up and into the hoop. "It's not easy to do, but over the course of a long season, you get used to it. Playing in the ACC is no joke".

The next step for Missouri is finding out whether the Porter brothers stay at school or go to the National Basketball Association.

"I don't know that I can think of too many games that Sophie has had a bad game". The freshman and preseason All-American said he probably won't make his decision on what's next for a little while.
