The North Carolina Tar Heels open their NCAA tournament on Friday but you wouldn't know it from a quick conversation with their head
CHARLOTTE -The past two seasons for the North Carolina Tar Heels ended with confetti falling on their heads, first as Villanova celebrated in front of their eyes and next with redemption against Gonzaga. "He was saying stop being afraid. I really think the crowd can make an impact in the game".
They'll definitely have to hit some outside shots, though, and play tough interior defense on a Texas A&M team that has a clear advantage in the painted area.
Berry, who contributed 14 points, three assists and three steals, wasn't the only Tar Heel to start slowly. Over half had to have been in transition which makes Williams so good.
North Carolina, the defending national champions, came out turnover-prone against the Bisons, creating three in the first 4 1/2 minutes, which led to a Lipscomb lead.
"We can rely on them a little bit for a couple minutes at a time", the coach said.
From there, the Bisons never pulled within eight points as the Tar Heels led by as many as 23 during the final minutes. I mean, '05 and '09, excuse me, '05 particularly, I thought we played great here.
"We needed to get our feet wet", he added.
Aggies win rebounding edge again: After Tyler Davis and Robert Williams singlehandedly outrebounded Providence in A&M's first-round victory, the two played a big role in coming up with a similar edge against the Tar Heels.
The Tar Heels shot just 33 percent, including 6 of 31 (.194) on 3-pointers after entering the game shooting almost 37 percent from behind the arc. The Aggies are putting up just 69 points per game away from home. "So I've just got to get my effort to match up with my potential".
After the 2005 title, the Tar Heels finished second in the ACC but lost to eventual Final Four surprise George Mason in the second round of the 2006 NCAA tournament. Fouled Out-None. Rebounds-Texas A&M 47 (R.Williams 13), North Carolina 36 (Maye 11).
Keeping with that trend, it's been a peculiar season in Chapel Hill.
Roy Williams also noted how Kenny Williams is taking ownership inside of the Tar Heels' scheme.
The public is behind North Carolina for this game. The Tar Heels will be fairly rested as they outmanned and obliterated inferior opponent David Lipscomb in the First Round on Friday.
Even with 10 losses, UNC is the tournament's No. 5 overall seed and the West Region's No. 2. We've all seen the 15 beat the 2 before (Lehigh over Duke), but the chances of it happening is always not likely.
Kenny Cooper scored the first basket in Lipscomb tournament history on a three from the right wing.

His comeback from a vicious wreck, the kind that can end careers, was completed Sunday when Bourdais showed he's still a victor . Though Harvick has a history of dominating races at ISM Raceway, he would only lead 38 laps en route to his victory.
No. 25 Rhode Island, Davidson to play for A-10 title
Rhode Island: A conference championship would have been nice, of course, but a trip to the NCAAs was going to happen, anyway. After Newkirk tied it with a basket on the next possession, Russell connected on a 3 to give the Rams the lead for good.
