Simpler Facebook Privacy Settings Are On The Way

3 Facebook Messenger app users file lawsuit over privacy

The changes won't affect Facebook's privacy policies or the types of data it gathers on users.

'We're taking additional steps in the coming weeks to put people more in control of their privacy, ' they added.

Facebook has announced a raft of changes to give users more control over their data in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica revelations.

For Android and iOS mobile app users, the setting menu has gone under the knife reappearing with chunkier, more descriptive menus.

In a response to feedback from Facebook users and online experts, the Vice President of Communications, Public Policy and Marketing contributed to an extensive release where Facebook again made design promises: "M$3 any users have expressed that the current set of privacy choices are confusing or overwhelming". The company announced today a "top to bottom" redesign that will bring together 20 separate menu pages into a single centralized system. Instead of spreading the settings across nearly 20 different pages, they are now all accessible from one screen.

"Facebook's bug bounty program will expand so that people can also report to us if they find misuses of data by app developers", Ime Archibong, Facebook's director of platform partnerships, said Monday.

"The biggest difference is ease of access in settings, which fulfills Mark Zuckerberg's promise to make the privacy process and permissions more transparent to users", Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said. The goal of this tool was to put already existing controls front-and-center, giving the user control over what they were sharing, and with whom.

Lastly, its privacy shortcuts page now has more visuals and explanations for what each option does.

"The past decade shows that user concerns over privacy appear to have little teeth on changing how the platform behaves, aside from a recycling of contrite statements and promises to do better from its CEO", she said. This will let you delete posts, reactions, comments, things you've searched for, and other content linked to your account. Users will be able to delete anything from their timeline or profile.

Facebook has been working on the changes in preparation for the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, which were approved two years ago and take effect May 25.

Tools to make protecting accounts easier were also introduced.

Control your personal information: You can review what you've shared and delete it if you want to.

"Finally, Facebook admits it has a responsibility to tell users ".how we collect and use your data in language that's detailed, but also easy to understand".
