But Ben Affleck's back tattoo was not the only thing that drew criticism from the New Yorker author. The snaps put Affleck's mysterious back tattoo, which the actor previously claimed was "fake for a movie", on full display. "Thick skin bolstered by garish tattoos", Affleck tweeted on Thursday, March 29.

"It's not one man's job to tell another man what he can do to his back", Damon said.

On Saturday, New Yorker writer Naomi Fry published a story called "The Great Sadness of Ben Affleck", which analyzed recent pictures of the Justice League actor from a training session of his upcoming Netflix film Triple Frontier, directed by J.C. Chandor.

It all started back in December 2015, when he was photographed on the set of his movie Live By Night with shockingly elaborate ink, including a massive, colorful phoenix rising on his back. There are many who said they were not a fan, and that includes Affleck's two exes, Garner and Jennifer Lopez, who have never shied away from expressing their dislike of the ink in interviews long before this issue popped out again this year.

Affleck had always claimed the tattoo was fake - until now.

The article also criticized Affleck's looks, noting "his gut is pooching outward" and comparing him to cartoon character Homer Simpson.

Affleck's ex-wife Jennifer Garner famously had less than kind words to say about it when she was asked her opinion by Vanity Fair back in 2016.

Thinking, 'Oh, no Ben Affleck didn't?' We can assure you he did. "I support him in all of his artistic expression", Matt said. It's unclear if that's the case with Ben Affleck, but it seems logical, especially considering all of the weight fluctuations he's expected to go through for any given part.

Recently, Affleck's close friend Matt Damon protected him in an interview with The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. She added, "I take umbrage".

"You know what we would say in my hometown about that?"
