Notre Dame (34-3) used a jumpshot from junior guard Arike Ogunbowale with one second remaining in overtime to defeat CT (36-1), 91-89, successfully putting an end to the Huskies' pursuit of perfection.
Arike Ogunbowale hit a long contested jumper with one second left in overtime for a 91-89 victory, the second year in a row that an unbeaten UConn team lost in the semifinals on a late shot in overtime.
After Connecticut tied with game with 13 seconds remaining, Irish guard Arike Ogunbowale scored with one second left giving Notre Dame the win, and handing the Huskies their first loss this year.
Notre Dame and Mississippi State will now face off in the national championship game on Sunday, April 1.
The Bulldogs ended UConn's hopes for a fifth title in a row, and ended an 111-game winning streak, with an overtime victory at last year's Final Four in Dallas. The Irish chipped away until they took a brief lead with 2:21 left in the period. There are no bad teams (here).
Meanwhile, women's college basketball was left to deliberate whether UConn's stumble represented an anomaly or a hint of something larger - the beginning of a shift toward greater parity in the game, which has developed on a track parallel to the men's game.
There's just a team that came from nothing and climbed to the top showing others that they can do the same as well.

The network also looked to bring in Spidercam for its Final Four and National Championship broadcasts, which required separate surveys to determine cable and camera placement.
Notre Dame has defied many odds all season facing multiple injuries and a limited bench. Jackie Young made two free throws to give Notre Dame a one-point lead, then Gabby Williams' errant pass set up another Notre Dame possession.
It's rare that a team gets one shot to beat UConn. Notre Dame hit a last-second shot in overtime Friday to oust the Huskies from the NCAA Tournament. Says ESPN Associate Director of Operations Larry Wilson, "Having that relationship and that familiarity with [EN1] is a real efficiency for us to coordinate our activities between game and host effectively".
"You really can't describe what goes into getting here and trying to win a championship", said UConn coach Geno Auriemma. Senior guard Victoria Vivians was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 25 points.
UConn made its 11th straight Final Four appearance. UConn had five players in double digits, led by Napheesa Collier with 24.
"Any time you can show some parity in our game on any level, it's always good", said Dawn Staley, the coach of SC, which won last year's title.
CT has won the last seven meetings between the two schools, including the most recent one on December 3rd, a 80-71 Huskies win in Hartford, CT. And you thought I was kidding when I said Uconn is destroying opponents? She worked her way back to play a key role in the Irish's win over Villanova in the second round and then was a big factor in beating OR to get the Irish to the Final Four.
"You know, one or two players really make the difference at this time of the year". "Each team had a chance to prove what kind of team they were".

At the time of the incident, neither Mr Noor or another officer present, Matthew Harrity , had their body-worn cameras activated. In response to the murder charge, his lawyer Tom Plunkett argued that prosecutor Freeman had jumped to conclusions on the case.
