Loyola Chicago vs. Michigan: How the Ramblers and Wolverines got to the Final Four

Loyola-Chicago's Carson Shanks goes up for a dunk

Point guard Clayton Custer, the MVC player of the year, returns.

The bar has risen in Rogers Park, where expectations will be great after the Ramblers put together a 32-6 season that included their first Missouri Valley Conference championship, league tournament title and first Gentile Arena sellout since 2003. They also set the NCAA single-season record.

Jay Wright's Wildcats scored 22 of the game's first 26 points Saturday night in San Antonio, and Midwest regional champion Kansas was unable to offer up a response. "Two categories we want to be on the better side of in our game goals for each game, and we failed both of those goals". So of course he hit the three-pointer to tie it with less than 7 minutes remaining.

Devonte' Graham and Malik Newman scored 23 and 21 points, respectively, to pace the Jayhawks.

Malik Newman's year of work has paid off with a trip to the Final Four.

The Ramblers won the national championship in 1963, their only other appearance in the Final Four.

Kansas is running out of time to make a comeback in the national semifinal against Villanova.

"The shots were falling in the second half".

Loyola's recruits for next season are ranked as three-star players: 6-9 center Franklin Agunanne from La Lumiere in IN, 6-3 shooting guard Cooper Kaifes from Kansas and 6-2 point guard Isaiah Bujdoso from Washington.

Early on, MI took advantage of Loyola's cold shooting, building a 12-4 lead as the Ramblers went almost eight minutes without making a field goal. However, Michigan scored 17 of the game's next 19 points to assume control at 54-47.

Eric Paschall has four of Villanova's 3s so far. MI likely would be a slight underdog to Kansas and a sizable underdog to pre-tournament favorite Villanova. Richardson had four points and four rebounds.

The second half from the Wolverines was in stark contrast to the first-half effort. The Ramblers made just one 1 of their 10 shots from outside the arc. It might take the rest of their lives to make sense of such a handsome display. Five of those had multiple 3s, led by AP player of the year Jalen Brunson's three.

The final game of the 2018 NCAA Tournament will take place on Monday, April 2 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Loyola, the best shooting team in the NCAA Tournament, has had a different leading scorer throughout its run to the Final Four. Allen is the most prolific 3-point shooter in National Basketball Association history and a two-time league champion. The game never got closer than five points.

MI will try and bring home the university's first national title in basketball since its 80-79 overtime win over Seton Hall in 1989.

Backup point guard Jaaron Simmons made a 3, and Duncan Robinson hit another a few minutes later to cut the Wolverines' deficit to 45-42 with 10 minutes left. From now until the end of time, an air-balled shot that is caught and dunked just before the final horn will be "pulling an NC State" or "shades of Lorenzo Charles".
