NCAA Frozen Four Central

And for those who only followed the men's NCAA basketball tournament, this from the Frozen Four may sound familiar as well: MI lost.

The 2018 Frozen Four got underway Thursday in St. Paul, Minn., and it featured three Big Ten teams in semifinal action. The semi-finals begin on Thursday, April 5 when Ohio State takes on Minnesota Duluth, followed by MI playing Notre Dame. The Irish beat Michigan Tech in overtime in the first round of the tournament before beating Providence 2-1 on a goal at the 19:33 mark in the third period.

The Big Ten-champion Irish have five straight wins, but are 9-6-1 in their last 16 games since a 16-game win streak ended January 21.

The goal came with just 3.7 seconds remaining in the third period, and ended what Evans called a lull after MI tied the game with 5:22 remaining. Roehl is one of five freshmen playing defense for the Bulldogs. Irish sophomore Cale Morris, the favorite for the Mike Richter Award as the nation's top goalie, made his best save of the night on MI captain Tony Calderone during that power play.

Andrew Oglevie had a goal and an assist, Cal Burke also scored, and Cale Morris stopped 25 shots for the Irish (28-9-2).

MI got off to good starts in both the first and seconds periods.

It took just 17 seconds into the second period for the team to go ahead 2-0.
