Smoke rises during evacuation in the besieged town of Douma Eastern Ghouta in Damascus Syria
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan lashed out at global investors on Thursday, saying that no one could use exchange rates to bring the country to heel - casting a slide in value of its currency, the lira, as a foreign conspiracy.
"Dividing Syria through terror groups is equally wrong as protecting the regime that attacks its own citizens with chemical and conventional weapons", the president said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and United States counterpart Donald Trump discussed the crisis in Syria during a telephone conversation late last night, a Turkish presidential source said. "The two leaders agreed to stay in close contact about the situation", the White House said, providing no further details.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday said Turkey was anxious by the "arm wrestling" of world powers over Syria, as tensions soared between Washington and Moscow after threats of possible U.S. air strikes.
The presidents exchanged views following a suspected chemical attack during the weekend in Douma, a Syrian town northeast of capital Damascus, Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
Yet Turkey has also worked closely in the last months with Russian Federation and Assad's other main ally Iran in a bid to bring peace to Syria.
He recently announced a complete pullout from Syria of about 2,000 special operations advisers helping Kurdish and Syrian rebels fight Assad and destroy ISIS, now holed up in one last hardened stronghold. Trump also blamed Moscow for being partners with "a gas killing animal", referring to Syria's Bashar al-Assad.
The comments come in the wake of Trump's tweet warning Russian Federation to "get ready" for "new and "smart" missiles that "will be coming" to Syria.
"Those who support the regime of murderer Assad are making a mistake".
Erdoğan said that the number of "neutralized" PKK terrorists in northern Iraq reached 337.

Azerbaijanis Participate in Presidential Elections
They say it was aimed at shortening the campaign period and hampering the opposition's efforts to prevent vote-rigging. Ilham Aliyev was re-elected in 2008 and 2013 in polls that were denounced by opposition parties as fraudulent.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott Announces Senate Run
Trump, in other words, could be a liability in Florida more than in other states - and perhaps for no candidate as much as Scott. This has become an effective strategy for Republicans, most notably in the 2016 Presidential Election.
