IPL 2018: Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma get Mumbai off the mark

Mumbai Indians finally taste victory after a hat-trick of losses

But from then on, it was a complete onslaught as Evin Lewis who was joined by his captain Rohit Sharma put a 108-run partnership off just 66 balls to tilt the scale back in Mumbai's favour. His unbeaten 92 took his tally to 392 runs off 271 balls.

He and Lewis instantly set about swinging the clash in their favour, and Mumbai had progressed to a more than respectable 60 for two at the end of the powerplay, thanks in part to one Washington Sundar over that yielded 19. The defending champions eased to a 46-run win on Tuesday (April 17) at the Wankhede after starting with three straight losses. By the end of the ninth over, Lewis already had his fifty, while Rohit moved quietly to an 18-ball 23.

Lewis contributed 65 runs with his bat. Rohit came up with an interesting take on what advice he had offered to the Caribbean opener, who's playing in his first IPL.

Is death overs a problem for RCB? Today wasn't very different.

There were two ways from an outsider to look at the Mumbai Indians situation as they went into their four match of the season. While chasing 214, RCB could only manage 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, had no option but to be positive. However, MI chose to review the decision and even though the snickometer showed a slight edge, the TV umpire ruled in favour of the hosts, leaving Kohli agitated. But Kohli's gritty knock kept the crowd interested. And from there on it was complete carnage as Rohit was finally dismissed for 94 in the last over of the innings, not before slamming 10 fours and 5 sixes in another of his marvellous innings in this edition of the IPL.

Later, RCB started to chase the score. But when de Kock and AB De Villiers fell in the same over to Mitchell McClenaghan, Bengaluru's hopes were dashed and they were never able to recover. Mitch bowled a great spell upfront to get the experienced batsmen out and then Krunal came in and used his variation to his advantage. Mandeep Singh struggled his way to a 14-ball 16 before being sent packing by Krunal Pandya.

MI made a horrific start losing Suryakumar Yadav (0) and Ishan Kishan (0) off the first two balls from Umesh and rallied to 60 for two after six overs.

From there on, RCB continued to lose wickets.

Losing captain Kohli is now the Orange Cap holder for leading the run-scorers' list.

Rohit Sharma couldn't have asked for a better stage to roar back to form.
