Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not feature in 2018 football World Cup Swedish federation confirms

After some back and forth speculation, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the 2018 World Cup with Sweden after all.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic spoke to the Swedish national team from 2001 to 2016 (116 matches and 62 goals). He said he has not changed his decision regarding playing in the national team.

Sweden's sporting director Lars Richt says Ibrahimovic has not changed his mind on global retirement despite his own words.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic sarcastically responded to confusion about his Sweden at no-show the World Cup.

The 36-year-old retired from worldwide football ahead of joining Manchester United ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, during which he claimed 27 goals. "He was not going to be in the team after the European Championship, and I respected him".

The suggestion that the outspoken striker could return to the worldwide stage for this summer's tournament inevitably led to questions being directed at Sweden boss Janne Andersson.

"I talked to Zlatan on Tuesday", he said. "And at the moment I have other things to do than to think about what would be if..."

"It doesn't change anything for me", he said last month. Is now the star striker is the club MLS "Los Angeles galaxy".

Ibrahimovic played on the Sweden World Cup teams in 2002 and 2006.
