Namaz should be prayed in Mosques, says Haryana CM after right wing Hindu groups disrupt friday prayers

Namaz Should Be Read In Mosques Not Public Spaces: Chief Minister ML Khattar

However, offering namaz at a place with the intention of grabbing land is not right.

Across the country, Hindu processions routinely tie up traffic, mosques use loudspeakers to call their faithful to prayer, and popular Christian preachers advertise themselves on billboards. In fact, at a park opposite Candor Techscape, a group of corporate executives could only offer namaz amidst heavy security cover.

Most national newspapers carried a statement made by the chief minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, wherein he underscored something that should have been obvious till now. On Friday we stopped namaz at 10 places.

It is worth mentioning here that almost a dozen Hindu vigilante groups including the Bajranj Dal, reorganised themselves as Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti on Friday, opposed the prayers being offered at open spaces amid slogans like "Bangladeshis go back".

"Our point of view is that namaz should be offered in the precincts of religious places like mosques and Eidgahs, and if there is shortage of place for offering namaz, it should be done at private places", Khattar said. "Blocking public places not good".

This comes in the wake of protests by the Gurugram locals objecting to Muslims praying in the open.

The BJP has drawn sharp political criticism for its stance.

Although there has been no official reaction from the Gurgaon authorities, sources say decent amount of compels arrived at the namaz websites and prevented any violence.

The issue has also brought into focus the many forms of prayers-jagrata, bhandara, kirtans and kawarias-that are held in public spaces including on roadsides. Making an appeal to Muslims to show restraint, Mr. Suresh said that those suspected to create trouble were being identified and educated on the laws on freedom of religion.

The Opposition has also demanded an explanation from the Chief Minister and white paper from his government on the investments brought to Haryana during his foreign tours. "Because of this, Muslims have to read Friday namaz in parks and open grounds since there is no space provided for this". As India's largest annual pilgrimage, it draws around 20 million participants. Why should we allow visarjan processions that take over our streets? "Given how bad the traffic situation is, I think public religious demonstrations of any kind shouldn't be encouraged".
