Baileigh Bagshaw 15 was found murdered in her Salt Lake City home on Monday

"She was on the phone checking in with her mother after arriving home from school, when she was violently attacked", Salt Lake City Police said on Tuesday.

Police warn that French should be considered armed and risky.

A 24-year-old man who fled Utah after a 15-year-old girl was found brutally killed in her home has been caught in southern Colorado.

"It was a very violent and brutal attack that occurred here in the home", Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer told reporters on Tuesday, calling it a "horrendous crime".

A warrant has been issued for French's arrest, who faces a charge of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. "The mother heard the attack going on, and then the phone went dead".

Her mother called neighbors, who went to the house and contacted police shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday.

She was found dead when police responded to the scene.

On Monday, police asked the public to be on the lookout for a camouflage-green, 1991 Daihatsu Rocky SUV with Wyoming plate 19 13974. He also has relatives in Evanston, Wyo., and Denver, Colo. Police said the teen called her mother to check in when her killer attacked, leaving her mom on the phone to listen in on the assault before the phone went dead.

Bagshaw had just returned from West High School and called her mother to let her know she was OK, a routine thing she did, FOX13 reported. Police are not yet announcing Bagshaw's official cause of death, according to Shearer. I can't even guess what the mother would be going through right now. "Our hearts and thoughts are with her". "She was really friendly and nice", 15-year-old Talia Zamir said. He had been considered armed and unsafe but was taken safely into custody by Colorado law enforcement.
