Ex-Cavs GM David Griffin: LeBron James Told Raptors How to Run Plays in 2017

Birmingham Head Coach Nicholas Halic sends in a play during the the game at Taft Charter High School in Woodland Hills on Friday

Griffin told a story about when he was watching the Cavaliers play against the Toronto Raptors back in 2017 while he was working out in the gym, and how amazed he was by how easy James was able to read the Raptors formation and instruct them on where they should be despite them being his opponents.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin explained how his former star forward once was casually telling Raptors players how to run their own plays, as he swept them out of the playoffs last season.

James has been fortunate in his career, missing just 71 games in his 15 seasons and ranking 18th all time in total minutes played in National Basketball Association history.

LeBron James has always been known as having an insanely high Basketball IQ, but a recent story from former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin takes the mythology of James' greatness to a whole new level.

On Thursday, William Lou of The Score passed along comments Griffin made about the situation during an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast.

"It's just about growing, maturing, and understanding that you play smarter", James said, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. "Not going to do this here.' It's just about picking your spots". "He was like 'no Pat, you're supposed to stand over there and set a pin down [pick] for Demar over here'".

We've known of LeBron's impressive memory and mind for the game for some time - he has the uncanny ability to recall plays at a moment's notice during post-game press conferences.

James' confidence against the Raptors is well earned.

James' squad has knocked the Raptors out of the postseason each of the last three years.
