Russian Federation and Israel 'reach a deal' with Assad on Syrian territory

Syrian government vows to fight rebels despite US warning

The sun sets over the Gaza Strip as seen from the Israeli side of the border

Rebels hold stretches of that area and intensive Israeli airstrikes in Syria this month were prompted by what Israel said was Iranian rocket fire from the area into the Golan Heights.

Moscow says there is an agreement to hold a three-way meeting between Russian Federation, the United States and Jordan to discuss the de-escalation zone in southern Syria.

Sources said the two national security advisers will make changes to the agreement that reflect the "new reality" of the U.S. no longer being party to the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

According to Israeli sources, Russian Federation has grown increasingly frustrated with Iran's presence in Syria and is anxious that fighting between Israel and Iran threatens its hard-fought victories.

The Israeli prime minister is scheduled to meet with European leaders next week and said that he intends to discuss Iran's nuclear power and find ways to block its "nuclear aspirations" and "Iran's spreading in the Middle East".

A Syrian state-run newspaper says Damascus will keep fighting the country's rebels - or "terrorists" as the government calls opposition fighters - despite USA warnings against a new offensive in southern Daraa province.

In addition to violence inside Syria, Daraa's location on the border of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights makes any operation there highly sensitive.

Both Russia and Iran have played pivotal roles in helping reverse Assad's fortunes, and Faisal Mekdad, Syria's deputy foreign minister, last week reassured Tehran that a pullout was not up for discussion.

Iran pledged to stay out of fighting in southwestern Syria during talks with Israel that took place in Amman, Jordan, according to Elaph, a Saudi-owned website as reported by Ma'ariv.

A senior Israeli official made clear that Netanyahu's government would not deem the exclusion of Iranian forces from the border region sufficient.

At the moment, the control of the border area close to Jordan and Israel is shared between Syrian government forces and different militant groups.

Jordanian officials served as mediator, shuttling messages between the two rooms, according to the report.

It averts possible direct confrontation between Iran and Israel in Syria, where tensions have heightened between the foes.
