Trump disrupts G-7 gender equality meeting by arriving late

"I guess they're going to go back to the drawing board and check it out, right?" he said, warning that if his fellow leaders make good on threats to take retaliatory measures, they could find themselves shut out of American markets.

The PM also said she had spoken to Mr Trump "briefly" at the summit about his upcoming visit to the UK.

While the EU-state imposed sanctions on Russia over Crimea along with the rest of the bloc, Austria did not expel Russian diplomats like other Western nations following the March poisoning of a Russian former double agent and his daughter in Britain, an attack London has accused Moscow of being behind.

Russian Federation was thrown out of the group in 2014 over the annexation of Crimea.

Trump says he will depart shortly for Singapore on a "mission of peace".

"If the expectation was that a weekend in attractive Charlevoix....was going to transform the president's outlook on trade and the world, then we didn't quite reach that bar", Trudeau said.

Trump seems more fond of sparring with reporters when he can share the stage with a foreign counterpart, as he did this past week at the White House after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had stopped in Washington to consult with Trump before the G-7 and the upcoming Kim summit.

Trump addressed a wide range of concerns in comments to the press before leaving the G7 meeting in Canada.

FYI: G7 or Group of Seven is a group consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Trump warned countries against levying retaliatory tariffs on the US after his administration imposed punitive tariffs on aluminum and steel imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union on national security grounds.

However, Peskov also stressed that no specific agreement had been reached about holding a summit between Trump and Putin.

The US president was very much the odd man out on climate change during the G7 in Italy a year ago, later announcing his intention to withdraw from the landmark Paris agreement.

A member of Macron's team characterised Friday's talks as "frank and robust", with Trump first repeating his lengthy diatribe about what he regards as unfair trade restrictions - before the Europeans responded with facts and figures they felt would blunt his argument.

Trump told reporters in Quebec before leaving the Group of Seven summit that he "came up with the term fake news" because much of the US press "is very dishonest".

Trump's administration last week ended a two-month exemption to steel and aluminum imports from Mexico, Canada and the European Union. There is nothing they can say.

Trump called the summit a "one time shot" for Kim, but expressed optimism at the beginning of talks with the North Korean regime.

Trudeau has made the issue of gender equality a priority for the gathering.

But details are scant so far, and clear differences are remaining.

Trump contends that other countries "have been taking advantage of the United States on trade".
