With Trump-Kim Summit Over, What Now?

Tearful Rodman claims vindication for Kim ties

Trump, Kim shake hands to begin historic summit

Trump declared that "there is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea", in a series of tweets posted upon returning to the USA after his meeting with Kim.

Bret Baier's first interview with Donald Trump since he became POTUS, was tearing up the TV news turf this evening, after the Fox News political anchor asked POTUS about his just-wrapped summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

By referencing the "conflicting views", Moon appeared to be referring to Trump's unexpected promise to halt joint military exercises with South Korea, which the USA president called a "provocation" to the North.

The agreement signed by Trump and Kim on Tuesday said the United States would provide security guarantees to North Korea, while Pyongyang committed to denuclearisation.

Sen. Lindsey Graham does not have an issue with halting joint military exercises between the USA and South Korea while discussions with North Korea continue.

U.S. President Donald Trump this week agreed to halt joint U.S.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, over half of Americans approve of how Trump has handled North Korea, but only a quarter think the summit will lead to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Most Western observers have said the deal includes no new commitments from North Korea nor details on how denuclearisation could be achieved or verified.

Moon met Kim Jong Un in April and again in May as Pyongyang made a diplomatic push following a provocative run of nuclear and missile tests in 2017.

Turning to a trilateral sit-down between the top diplomats of South Korea, U.S. and Japan.

During his post-summit press conference, Trump admitted that he may be wrong about Kim's willingness to denuclearize.

Pompeo also said he's confident that USA talks with North Korea will resume "sometime in the next week".

Also on Thursday, South and North Korea held their first high-level military talks since 2007, discussing ways to ease cross-border tensions.

Contrasting the Trump policy with previous USA administrations, Pompeo said: "In the past, they were providing economic and financial relief before. complete denuclearisation had taken place".

"My understanding is that Trump said that to enhance a momentum of dialogue between South Korea and North Korea", Kang said told reporters.

"Even if the North Korean regime opens their country for revolution, this announcer will declare that decision". "We both want to do something", Mr Trump said during the signing ceremony at the summit. "I'm a realist. I'm not trying to bring democracy to North Korea".

Now, when questioned about the human rights abuses in North Korea, the President has defended "tough guy" Kim.

"It helps to promote and realise the denuclearisation of the peninsula and helps to provide the peninsula and the region real and lasting peace", Wang added. The official acknowledged, however, it was still not certain how that was going to happen.

The US maintains about 28,500 soldiers in South Korea, which remains in a technical state of war with the North after the 1950-53 Korean war ended in a truce rather than a peace treaty.
