Trump quip about North Korea's Kim sparks outcry on social media

Trump says he wants the US to treat him like North Korea treats Kim Jong Un

North Korea

President Donald Trump defended his summit meeting Kim Jong-un and his statements vouching for the North Korean dictator's love of his people, saying his actions potentially saved millions of lives.

United States President Donald Trump said he will call North Korean leader Kim Jong Un tomorrow and that the North is starting to return the remains of USA soldiers who went missing during the Korean War. "I would have him", Trump said.

Trump said during an interview outside the White House Friday that Kim's power should not be underestimated.

"Shinzo, you don't have this problem, but I can send you 25 million Mexicans and you'll be out of office very soon", Trump said, according to the official.

The odd moment was captured during Trump's visit to Singapore for a summit with Kim this week, with North Korean state television broadcasting the footage Thursday.

However, Trump's most controversial remarks came when Fox News reporter Steve Doocy asked about the North Korean dictator.

"You know why? Because I don't want to see a nuclear weapon destroy you and your family", Trump said. "I want to have a good relationship with North Korea".

Around 8 a.m. on Friday, Trump tweeted that the morning talk show was on the White House front lawn. Later, he told reporters: "I was kidding".

"If you can do that at 27 years old, I mean that's one in 10,000 that could do that", said the president, adding: "He's a very smart guy, he's a great negotiator". "Yeah, I would have him". "He speaks and his people sit up in attention". You haven't had missiles flying over Japans, ' he said.

The U.S. offered certain security assurances, including the suspension of joint military exercises with South Korea, in exchange for a commitment from Kim to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

But the other aspect of the images that should be scrutinized is how we're seeing them, aired as part of a North Korea propaganda TV special. "You don't understand sarcasm".

Since the summit, Trump has sought to label the outcome as a decisive diplomatic victory, but experts say there's still a long way to go. Of course, I met. Meeting is a good thing, not a bad thing. Nobody thought we were going to get that.

On June 12, 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump became the first American president to meet with a North Korean head of state.
