Denmark coach Hareide: It's Eriksen v Modric

Croatia have not won a knock-out game at a major tournament since beating Germany 3-0 in the quarter-finals of France'98

Croatia striker Davor Suker celebrates with his team-mates at the 1998 World Cup

It may not have been the end he wanted to his first campaign as Denmark manager, but Hareide said he was already looking forward to building on what the team had achieved in Russian Federation. Now, they'll be tasked with a skilled Denmark side that finished behind France in Group C after winning one game and drawing in two others.

Age Hareide's Denmark side are extremely disciplined and hard to break down, pretty much the polar opposite of the disheveled Argentina side that Croatia made mincemeat of last week. Also, five of its last six shots on target have found the back of the net.

Croatia has been one of the most impressive teams through the World Cup Group stage.

Denmark also have happy memories of that World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals, the nation's best ever performance.

116' - What a stop.

Expect Croatia to play in their strongest 4-2-3-1 formation with Mario Mandzukic as the lone striker and Luka Modric playing in an advanced role behind him. A lovely through pass to Ante Rebic led to an obvious goal-scoring chance that was ruined by an intentional penalty in the box.

Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic made three saves in the penalty shootout. Zanka is shown a yellow card.

Mario Mandzukic - Though Mandzukic scored just 9 goals for Juventus last season, his work rate and physicality is extremely crucial to Croatia going forward.

105' - Substitution: Denmark's Pione Sisto replaces Martin Braithwaite. British Summer Time, while fans in the United States can catch the live stream at 2 p.m.

98' - Substitution: Michael Krohn-Dehli replaces Thomas Delaney.

"There has been a lot of comparison between those two teams", Inter winger Ivan Perisic said this week.

Denmark struck first after 60 seconds.

"It is a stern test for us, but it is high time that this generation hurdles this obstacle which we haven't hurdled since 1998". We're 15 minutes away from a possible shootout. There's a delay in the game as he receives attention. Zlatko Dalic opted for Modric, Rakitic and Marcelo Brozovic, with Mateo Kovacic initially on the bench.

Lasse Schone (for Christensen 45) - 6 - Transformed the tempo of Denmark's play when he entered the field.

First, Mathias Jørgensen turned home in the second minute after Croatia failed to clear a long throw-in from Jonas Knudsen, the defender's shot creeping under Subasic to give Denmark the flawless start. He limps off the field just before halftime.

39 minute: Free-kick to Croatia on the left-flank. The cross, though, sails wide right of the post after Dejan Lovren's header.

Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic rates Tottenham Hotspur ace Christian Eriksen highly. But Jorgensen saved what would have surely been a goal, and then his goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel came to the rescue.
