Jackson A look back — Le Bron and keeping secrets

LOS ANGELES- The so-called Summer of LeBron is off to a big start. He could be in Southern California longer than usual. However, James could still re-sign with Cleveland, although the strong current from national media is that he appears ready to move.

LeBron James is opting out of the final year of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and officially becoming an unrestricted free agent, according to multiple reports.

It was proposed that the Lakers could be looking to form a superteam with James lining up alongside Paul George and Kawhi Leonard at the Staples Center. And although the two sides have been in touch since the Cavs were swept by the Warriors in the NBA Finals, no face-to-face meeting is imminent.

While every team dreams of being ruled by King James, only a few have a legit chance of signing him.

The most likely destinations are the LA Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and possibly, back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The decision to decline the option for 2018-19 was expected by James because it gives him more options, which includes him re-signing with the Cavs, who can offer him the most money - a five-year, $209 million contract.

Citing sources close to LeBron James, cleveland.com National Basketball Association reporter Joe Vardon has thrown cold water on Thursday's hot take floated by ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

Cavs general manager Koby Altman spoke to both Rich Paul and LeBron James over the phone at 12:01 a.m., sources tell ESPN.

One of the best things about the Los Angeles Rams being in the same city as a few other professional sports teams is watching them all show support for one another, which the team chose to do on Friday to chime in on LeBron James.

ESPN Sports Business correspondent Darren Rovell on Sunday noted a significant advantage that would accrue to James by choosing to ink a deal with Philadelphia rather than the Lakers, posting to his own Twitter feed. Fast-forward a year, Oladipo was just named the league's Most Improved Player and Sabonis is one of the game's best young reserves. This is also the first offseason in which Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are fully healthy.

OTHER CONTENDERS: Houston: While the Rockets once seemed a good fit, James declining his option all but eliminated the chances of him joining up with close friend Chris Paul and league MVP James Harden.

The 33-year-old averaged 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 9.1 assists and 1.4 steals and shot 54.2 percent from the field this past season.
