No fewer than 13 players were ejected from a wild FIBA World Cup qualifying basketball match when the Australian Boomers and the Philippines team erupted in an all-in brawl.

Thirteen players were ejected - four from Australia, including Maker, and nine from the Philippines.

FIBA has already opened disciplinary proceedings against both teams.

In a statement following the brawl, Basketball Australia chief executive Anthony Moore condemned the incident and said that the Boomers would accept the consequences.

"Whilst we accept our responsibility for our role in last night's incident, what we don't accept is the action whereby fans and officials actually get involved in the fray", Moore told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday.

For those who don't believe basketball can be a violent sport, allow us to introduce you to the worldwide game. At the end of this we will await for the referees' decision.

The Australian men's basketball team can expect hefty punishment from the sport's governing body following their involvement an ugly brawl against the Philippines. The incident occurred when a hard foul by Gilas guard Roger Ray Pogoy on Australia's Chris Goulding was followed by an elbow hit from Australia's Daniel Kickert.

"We want basketball to be the victor". The game continued but was brought to a halt as the local players deliberately fouled out.

Thon Maker, one two National Basketball Association players on the Australian side, tweeted Tuesday he was "deeply disappointed in the actions displayed" and was taking responsibility for his own actions.

Following a lengthy delay to sort out the penalties, the game resumed with just three Philippino players eligible to continue.

"We find that absolutely unacceptable". "We have briefed our lawyers on that, as you would expect us to do".

A better look at the throwdown comes courtesy of Ryan Northover, who recorded footage from the Fox Sports Australia broadcast of the game.

Nathan Sobey was also singled out in the fight when more than ten Filipino players set upon him outside of the court.

Scheduled post-match press conferences for both teams were cancelled.
