Scott Pruitt resigns from EPA

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt listens as President Donald Trump speaks during a cabinet meeting at the White House Thursday

Pruitt and Mink's exchange is just one of many in recent history where Trump administration officials have been confronted by concerned citizens.

"Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this", he added. Critics called the overhaul of the role of scientific studies at EPA possibly the most momentous of all Pruitt's actions at the EPA.

At the same time, it's hard to imagine that anyone could possibly be worse than Pruitt, so let's take a moment to celebrate this victory, and then prepare ourselves to keep fighting on behalf of the environment. "That was the position he was originally interested in".

As the former Attorney General of Oklahoma, Pruitt worked hard to burnish his anti-gay creds, opposing marriage equality and the rights of transgender students. In addition, some environmental groups have opposed Pruitt for his rollback of Obama-era EPA policies he deemed counterproductive for businesses.

Pruitt has been overhauling the agency to ensure that industry interests come before environmental protection. Those groups quickly applauded his departure.

In an email sent out to EPA staffers Thursday night and obtained by the Associated Press, Wheeler said he was honoured to take temporary leadership of the agency where he started his Washington career in the early 1990s, as an EPA employee dealing with toxic substances and other matters. "His corruption was his downfall, but his pro-polluter policies will have our kids breathing dirtier air long after his many scandals are forgotten".

In a statement, Friends of the Earth argued that fossil fuel industry insiders like Wheeler "have no business leading the EPA" and vowed to hold him accountable "for his efforts to harm our public health and environment" during his time as acting EPA chief. Your courage, steadfastness and resolute commitment to get results for the American people, both with regard to improved environmental outcomes as well as historical regulatory reform, is in fact occurring at an unprecedented pace and I thank you for the opportunity to serve you and the American people in helping achieve those ends.

The group also joined others nationwide to work toward the passing of the Future Energy Jobs Act for the growth of solar and wind energy jobs. He's been investigated for undertaking expensive, first-class global travel with a large detail, and for spending $43,000 to build a soundproof phone booth in his office.

Her post and video has been viewed over half a million times.

Some of the ethics accusations against Pruitt involved jobs for his wife.

His job had been in jeopardy since it emerged he had leased a property a year ago that was co-owned by the wife of a veteran fossil fuels lobbyist, whose firm had sought regulatory rollbacks from the EPA.

It was not immediately clear how Pruitt's resignation might affect those ongoing probes.

The reason Pruitt persisted so long is the same reason why his environmentalist foes shouldn't break out the organic Champagne: The administrator was doing exactly what his boss wanted. As a private citizen, he could still be subpoenaed to testify before Congress, but Republican-led committees have thus far shown little appetite in forcing him to do so.

Beyer and Lieu, in their letter to the inspector general, said the allegations were supported by an analysis of Pruitt's public calendars.
